Research Interests

I am interested in improving care for people who die in acute care hospitals, nursing homes as well as at home. Our research group has develop Comfort Care Order sets and educational interventions to support providers and ensure people have access to medications for pain and other symptoms and nursing focused care for comfort and support. We have implemented them and tested them at over 50 VA Medical Centers.

Clinical Interests
My primary clinical interest are working with patients and families dealing with stress of serious complex illnesses to improve quality of life.

Care Philosophy
Integration of Palliative Care principles of whole patient/family unit with attention to pain and other physical symptoms and psycho-social-spiritual distress when integrated early in the disease process can improve quality but also quantity(survival) of life.

Personal Interests
I my spare time, I enjoy outdoors recreation and spending time with my family, I am interested in environmental conversation and food security issues.
