"Dr. Deterding is an internationally known pediatric pulmonologist, executive leader of one of the largest academic and clinical pediatric pulmonary practices for children in the country and a serial entrepreneur committed to improved care models for patients. She is a tenured Professor of Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and the Children's Hospital. She completed her medical training and residency in Pediatrics and Internal Medicine at Southern Illinois University and completed Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship training at the University of Colorado. She is currently the executive leader for breathing as the Chief of Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine at the University of Colorado and the Medical Director of the Pediatric Breathing Institute at Children's Hospital Colorado, an innovative Institute designed to expand interdisciplinary programs and improve outcomes, clinical care and new treatments for children with breathing problems. She is recognized as an international expert in the care of children with rare interstitial and diffuse lung disease who frequently need oxygen and one of the leading clinical researchers in this area. Her research interests include biomarkers, proteomics, and defining clinical phenotypes outcomes with novel approaches. She is the international coordinating investigating helping to lead the first clinical trial for treating children with pulmonary fibrosis. As a Founder of The Children's Interstitial Lung Disease Research Network (ChILDRN), she is co-leading efforts for a national diffuse lung disease database. She helped found the chILD Foundation for families which now has branches all over the world. Currently she is also the Medical Director of the Children's Colorado Innovation Center focused on transforming care through innovative digital care models. Other leadership efforts have included the development of multiple educational initiatives as the past Dean of Clinical Curriculum at the University of Colorado and the founding of 3 innovation startup companies with multiple patents focused on devices to improving clinical care. Dr. Deterding has over 100 publications and has had grant funding in medical education, clinical trials, clinical science and innovation devices. She has received numerous teaching awards and has consistently been recognized as one of Denver's 5280 Top Doctors and Best Doctors in America.
